पुनर्जीवन : Resurrection

नववर्ष की पूर्वरात्रि को अपने घर जाते समय रब्बाई का सामना एक प्रेत से हो गया. रब्बाई उसे देखकर भयभीत था. उस व्यक्ति की मृत्यु उस दिन सुबह ही हुई थी और रब्बाई ने ही उसका अंतिम संस्कार करवाया था.

“तुम तो मर चुके हो!” – भय से जकड़े हुए रब्बाई ने उससे पूछा – “तुम यहाँ क्या कर रहे हो?”

प्रेत ने कहा – “रब्बाई, आज की रात कुछ आत्माओं को दुबारा जन्म लेने के लिए भेजा गया है. मैं भी उनमें से एक हूँ.”

“और तुम्हें वापस क्यों भेजा गया है?” – रब्बाई ने पूछा.

“रब्बाई, तुम यह जानते हो कि मैंने पृथ्वी पर सत्य और परोपकार से पूर्ण जीवन जिया था…” – प्रेत ने कहा.

“फिर भी तुम्हें दोबारा जन्म लेने के लिए भेज दिया गया?” – रब्बाई ने उसे टोकते हुए कहा.

“हाँ” – प्रेत बोला – “मरने से ठीक पहले मेरे मन में यह विचार आ रहे थे कि मैंने सदैव आदर्श जीवन जिया है और कभी गलत मार्ग पर नहीं चला. यह सोचकर मेरे मन में पवित्र होने का अहंकार आ गया और उसी क्षण मेरी मृत्यु हो गयी. ऊपर जाने पर मुझे अपनी इस गलती को सुधारने के लिए वापस भेज दिया गया.”

यह कहते ही प्रेत अंतर्ध्यान हो गया और रब्बाई इस अनूठे घटनाक्रम पर विचार करते हुए घर आ गया. कुछ ही समय के भीतर उसकी पत्नी ने एक बालक को जन्म दिया. वह बालक बड़ा होकर रब्बाई वोल्फ कहलाया. उसे अहंकार कभी छू भी न सका.

It was New Year’s night, and the Rabbi was walking to his home when he met a shadowy figure. He was stunned to see that it was a man of the city who had recently died!

“What are you doing here?” the Rabbi asked, “you are supposed to be dead.””Rabbi, you know,” replied the ghost, “that this is the night when souls reincarnate on earth. I am such a soul.”

“And why were you sent back again?”

“I led a perfectly blameless life here on earth,” the dead man told him.

“And yet,” remarked the Rabbi, “you were forced to be born here again?”

“Yes,” said the other, “when I passed on I thought about everything I had done and I found it so good; I had done everything just right. My heart swelled with pride, and just then I died. So I was sent back to pay for that.”The figure disappeared and the Rabbi, pondering, went on to his home. Shortly after, a son was born to his wife. The child became Rabbi Wolf, who was an extremely humble man.
