बाधाओं के पार : Crossing the Hurdles

कैलिफोर्निया में एक प्रसिद्द सूफ़ी गुरु का ध्यान-प्रवचन शिविर लगा था. कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत सुबह के आठ बजे तय किये गए समय पर होने वाली थी. ठीक आठ बजे सूफ़ी गुरु का एक शिष्य स्टेज पर आया और उसने आगंतुकों से कहा – “गुरु बस नींद से जागने वाले ही हैं. कृपया धैर्य रखें.”

समय बीतता गया. धीरे-धीरे लोग वहां से खिसकने लगे. दोपहर को शिष्य पुनः स्टेज पर आया और बोला – “कोई खूबसूरत लड़की गुरुदेव से मिलने आई है. उससे बातें ख़त्म करते ही वे अपना प्रवचन प्रारंभ करेंगे.” यह सुनकर ज्यादातर लोग वहां से चले गए.

शाम के चार बजे सूफ़ी गुरु नशे में धुत्त होकर स्टेज पर आया. यह नज़ारा देखकर तीन-चार व्यक्तियों को छोड़कर बाकी बचे लोग कानाफूसी करते हुए निकल लिए.

उनके बाहर जाते ही गुरु ने शराबी के अभिनय से बाहर निकलकर कहा – “सबसे पहले मैं तुम लोगों को यह बताना चाहता हूँ कि बहुत लम्बे सफ़र पर चलने से पहले शुरुआती नाउम्मीदियों से अपना हौसला कभी भी पस्त नहीं करना!”

A famous Sufi master was invited to give a course in California. The auditorium was full at 8AM – the time announced – when one of the assistants came onto the stage.

“The master is just waking up. Please be patient.”

Time passed, and people started leaving the room. At midday, the assistant returned to the stage, saying that the master would be starting the lecture the minute he finished talking to a pretty girl he had just met. Most of the remaining audience left.

At 4PM the master appeared – apparently drunk. This time, all but 6 people stormed out.

“I will teach you this,” said the master, ceasing to act drunk. “Whoever wishes to go down a long path, must learn that the first lesson is to overcome early disappointments.”
